Winds over 80mph are forecasted to blast the Western Isles at the weekend. I imagine it could get pretty unpleasant in mainland Argyll as well.

Well I'm planning to sleep in the car at Blackrock, Glen Coe on Friday and Saturday nights. I suspect Saturday will not be a day for the hill, so I've packed plenty to read. On Sunday I'll see how the boat is doing - if the roads are open.

Guess there will be more snotty noases than standing pr**ks this week end then.
I was told the other day that during the last storm, the anomometer (spelling?) at glasgow airport read 120mph before it broke.
Anyone care to elaborate on this?
Apparently there were 5-7ft high waves within Rothesay dock.

I was flying to Birmingham from GLA that morning, 0705 departure. We left at about 0930 eventually. The pilot had said we could not take off until wind had dropped below 65 mph.
Sitting in the lounge, the windows were flexing, distorting the reflections of the departure desk woman who had said that they could not load bags, as they could not open the hold doors. So that created more space in the cabin for the fewer who decided still to fly.
While still on the stand, the turbulence at the tail where I sat, was more than most in-flight turbulence.
The take off was really exciting. I though one wind might touch after the wheels left the ground, such was the buffeting from the largely cross wind.

So if it was 120mph, I'm not surprised. Whatever it was, it was strong!

Just back from checking how Silkie survived the last blast. Amazingly the sprayhood (more patches than a pirate convention) is still intact although I have now removed it. They make a far better job of shoring at MRC than Dunstaffnage.

It's also the first time I've observed mast-up boats in cradles in a strong wind.

just got back from working on the boat at Maryport. The wind was gusting over 50 mph which I realize by Scottish standard is classified as a good drying breeze, but my point is that the boat is on the hard with the hull well sheltered from the wind. The mast is still up with sails removed and when I was sitting having a coffee looking straight up the mast I could see it flexing forward at the spreaders. I have never noticed this happen when on the water .
Perhaps this is a good reason to take the mast down.

Honestly held belief is an appropriate defence I understand plus I have the pics to support.
