Well, mine will be to just try to be more patient with others and less judgemental - for too long I have been accused of not suffering fools gladly.
Now I'm just going to suffer fools in silence ...
So, what's your NYR?

I think I'll join you on the losing packs of butter!
I didn't have a good year last year (cancer treatment).. I'm now very unfit and have far too many packs of butter too.
But I've spent the last three days walking in the Lake district and my thighs feel like I've done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. So an excellent start to the New year (not to mention the beautiful weather- crisp and frosty).
happy new year to you all

Since I gave up smoking 2 years ago I have put on the thick end of 3 stone, and I don't feel well as I am.
So, "do more eat less" is plan A for this year.
It would probably be good for me if I could have >1 evening a week without booze too so plan B has to be "do more drink less".
Happy new year.

OK - I can help you with this losing weight thing. Two and a half years ago we brought our boat home from Les Sables d'Olonne (no it's not an Open 60) and I was so overweight that I split the side seams on my lovely Musto mid-layer salopettes. I decided to act. I lost nearly 3 stones over a period of about 9 months. My approach involved adopting the Michael Winner diet and making an adjustment to how I responded to the messages my body was giving me.
The Michael Winner diet is simple: Eat Less.
The mental response to body messages is also simple: hunger is your body's way of telling you that you are succeeding in losing weight, so embrace hunger.
I took some more exercise but that is NOT the most important issue - it's just stop putting useless calories in your mouth.
Now I do occasionally have a binge and can put on 4lbs in an evening but being frugal over the next day or two shifts it.
You can do it in 2009. Trust me, I am living proof that a week-willed, semi-alcoholic can do this.
