Health advice when visiting New Zealand

This time last year we were in sunny New Zealand and looking forward to a days sailing to Great Calvi Island. We were in a shop chatting to a local and saying that we were looking forward to our days sailing. She looked absolutely horrified and as did her large bear like husband. We were about to do...

I would definitely recommend that you take Hamish Haswell Smith's book ( Scottish Islands) that Nick recommended as well as the CCC books.

It looks idyllic and reminds me how much we enjoyed the few weeks cruising up the west coast of scotland. So many incredible anchorages and reminds why the solent seems so boring! We are seriously thinking about moving our boat up to Oban in the next few years.

How to prevent your fridge turning into a primevil soup.....

We have a top loading fridge. Everything used to end up at the bottom, so the beer needed to be fished out from the swished tomatoes - not nice. Then I came across hamster Baskets - these are wire baskets that stack on each other. They are coated with plastic and are made to your measurements. I had...

We have a duogen d400. They are expensive I think all in with regulator, it was £1000, but very good. Much quieter than the AirX marine we had before, which always sounded like we had an helicopter landing. the d400 starts generating at about 6 knots of wind and at 15 knots we get about 3.5 amps....

If you are slurry blasting you won't need to key in with sandpaper the slurry blasting will do that. Do check with your yard first that they will allow slurry blasting mine didn't and I ended up at the last minute having to use chemical rather than slurry blasting. They said it would be easy ...ha h...

Worth a visit by land or sea ( and I promise I don't...
