Hi

.
Hi Sam,

No worries, glad to see you back posting.

We went to Orkney in July 2005 and really enjoyed it - apart from the weather. We loved the puffins on Westray and really enjoyed Papa Westray and Rousay as well, but we eventually fled South after ten days of grey skies, strong Northerlies and temperatures in single figures. We would love to go back though.

Promise I will put a permanent link to your site on BlueMoment soon, but am really busy at the moment so it will probably be after Christmas.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's his age. Nick's hormones get a bit jiggled about every now and then.

Glad to see I am not going to be keel hauled - very cold this time of year. But could never be as cold as the water of Orkney...we had a rope round the prop....

Westray

Post by DaveS »

Funny you should say that, I've spent quite a few weeks of the past year in Westray, but it's all been work. (Living in a caravan in a F9 is not much fun.) We're trying to get a biogas installation working properly: electricity from cattle sh!t. Brilliant idea in principle, but some of the practicalities have been a right pain in the proverbials...

.....Don't tell me you are feasting on Westray shortbread and orkney fudge.....have you tried the Grimbister Cheese yet? Though F9 in a caravan. Not much fun. One of our most memorable day ashore on our trip was at Grobust Beach blue sky, turquoise sea with waves crashing on the white beach but the spray being whipped of the top of the waves...I would attach a photo if I knew how....

Westray (again)

Aye, it's a grand place in the summer. My first visit was about 6 years ago to a wedding, in October IIRC. They take weddings pretty seriously there...

I'm fairly new to sailing. What is the best configuartion for one cotemplating this passtime? Short deep keel, long keeler, or would attempting to get between the horns of a bilge keeler be the most profitable?
