Are you are planning a UK Circumnavigation?

Post by Sam_steele »

If you are planning a UK and Ireland Circumnavigation or round Britain, then you might find "UK and Ireland Circumnavigator's Guide" useful for your planning. You can find out more about the book at www.ituna.info or on Amazon.

If you are planning a trip round britain then you are in for a real treat. Our coast is truly spectacular, you will see an abundance of wildlife and meet some great people en route. We sailed round Britain in 2006 and loved it. Our log and photos are also at www.ituna.info.

Regards

?????????????????????
He's flogging a book, Eamonn . . . I don't mind, but it would have been a bit less obvious if he had posted about something else first and just had the link in his sig instead of making his first post a pure advertisement.

Orkney 2006

Post by DaveS »

Take the point about the blatant advertising, but I found the account of the (almost) circumnavigation of mainland Britain interesting, particularly the bit in Orkney, being similarly timed to my own trip there: http://www.yotblog.com/DaveS/1443/

We appear to have been quite close to each other without ever actually meeting:

Date, Ituna, Avilion
29/6/06, Pierowall, Stromness
30/6/06, Calf Sd., Rysa Sd.
1/7/06, Stronsay, St. Margaret's Hope
2/7/06, Shapinsay, Kirkwall
3/7/06, Kirkwall, Rousay
4/7/06, Wick, Kirkwall

Small world, isn't it? :)

Its a cracking log and will probably end up with a permanent link somewhere on the site.

Nonetheless it is very irritating when people sign up with the specific intention of making a single post to advertise something. On 99% of fora it is an instant ban - the fact that it generally isn't on here should not be taken as an indication that anyone can post anything with impunity though.

On another matter, are you going in for the Saltire prize Dave? :)

£10 million will be awarded to the team that can demonstrate in Scottish waters a commercially viable wave or tidal energy technology that achieves a minimum electrical output of 100GWh over a continuous 2 year period using only the power of the sea and is judged to be the best overall technology after consideration of cost, environmental sustainability and safety.

Hmm...

Post by DaveS »

OK, it's got to average 6MW or more, so it's got to reach at least the bottom end of commercial scale. Fair enough: so far, so straightforward. But then it gets all weaselly: "best overall technology after consideration of cost, environmental sustainability and safety." In whose opinion? A bit too much scope for subjective judgement there IMHO.

Mind, £2M would buy a no bad boat...

No, minor slip! To most of us £2M and £10M are equally unattainable... :)

Mind, £10M would buy an even better boat! :D

Original question still stands - who's offering the dosh?

£10M would buy a few nice boats :!: :!:

I think this calls for some means of combining the collective skills of the members here assembled.

We could then each have a new boat - I'll have a Najad, please !

Firstly apologies for the blatant advertising ...sorry. I promise I will contribute to the site.

Dave S....so close in Orkney - we must have passed each other, you arrived in Stromness the day we left. They are fantastic the Orkneys - aren't they. Worth a visit by land or sea ( and I promise I don't work for the Orkneys' Tourist Board). We were there at the time of the Orkney music festival which was a real treat. If you go back definately go to Westray and visit the puffins - quite amazing.
