Re: Why You Are Not Anchoring

poor holding areas like Puildhobrain Och, I thought the 'received wisdom' for there was to carry and deploy 3 big fat Fortress anchors and deploy them, each on drums of 200m. of 20mm Polysteel like yon bampot Skip Novak. The 3 Fortress thingies? Not for the thin black soup under your keel, y'unders...

Re: Why You Are Not Anchoring

That wee laddie sounds almost convincing.... but I'm thinking he hasn't encountered any of our West Coast kelp.... or theirs. It's likely he hasn't encountered anything more challenging than the Lake Tahoe soft sand he's standing on, which is some 270* kilometers from the salty stuff, and 6000 feet ...

Re: Beefing up foredeck

Thanks for replies, all. This stay will be permanently mounted ( I hope! ) with a furler carrying a 95% Solent-type jib. A 'slutter' sort of 'cutter' rig. I have a hefty Wichard U-bolt which I hope to fit through the foredeck. The question is 'can I fit it far enough forward to utilise the SEMI-bulk...

Beefing up foredeck

Stealing a theme from a post by NickB... "If you are fitting a removeable inner forestay then I believe.... You will have to ensure that the through-deck fitting is able to stand the considerable forces involved." Right. Agreed. And I'm in process of doing that. Or planning to do just that...

If that's the 'wee wumman' behind the meteoric career o' yon Timothy James Hamilton Laurence, ah'll no hear a wurd said agin' her. She gave me a sextant fur ma' own, a wheen o' years back, just like yon Dobby gettin' a sock in re Harry Potter story.... Ah've no been the same since.

Eigg yacht pier closure

I came across this 'elsewhere' and thought it worth echoing here.... if not already in the public domain. "Lon nan Gruagach Who do we tell about interruption of mooring services? The drying yacht wall at Eigg pier will be out of service for a few weeks next month, whats the best way to let any ...

Re: Tip For Running Cables In Tight Spaces

That's interesting. I have new wiring to run, and I'm learning late in life that struggling with the wrong tools is a mug's game. So now I have both a 15m. 'Am-Steel' reel of flat spring steel wire - called, I believe, a 'fish wire' - with an 'ook on the end AND a 3.3m. grp 'Cable Rod Kit', for much...

Re: Forum moved to new server

Hello? Is anyone there...? Oh, hej, Nick. ".....If anything else isn't working please post it here." Just a mention. Earlier, on Monday pm, I had email auto-notification of a post re. "Who gets up your nose most on YBW?" and - fule that eye yam - I pecked a reply, mentioning me m...

Re: BlueMoment manuals downloads disabled

I 'spect to collect a 'fresh-as-a-daisy' Beta 14 thingy in a few days. Chances are it will come with a Manual. And I'm likely to have a couple of others, too, such as the Sea Feather 'how-to-do-it' booklet.

When all that sorts itself out, would it be appropriate to photocopy and post 'em to you?

The Scottish Bothy Bible/Geoff Allan

Just out a few days ago, I believe, this near-complete (!) 'guide to Scotland's bothies and how to reach them' is - for an ould expatriate like me, a sight for sore eyes, and certainly dredges up memories of the 60s - Shenavall and Ryvoan, Ben Alder and Staoineag..... and of some of the howffs and d...
