Re: Oh good grief if I put one more thing in a safe place. . .
A few years ago I lost a bottle of Tobermory's finest malt for several months on my luxuryless 22footer. It hasn't happened since but it's unlikely to mean that my memory is improving.

Re: Stern chainplate rebuild - thoughts?
How about drilling a couple of exploratory holes to see what the transom plate is made of and it's condition? I would have guessed that it's one piece with the backstay attachment and is therefore stainless and probably all right. You may be able to get away with just replacing the top plate. Or am ...

Re: Batteries
Bought a new battery for Silkie from Costco. Bosch marine/leisure batteries 75Ah for £35 and 110Ah for £56 inc VAT. Seems like a decent price? It's hard to believe that this battery lasted 13 seasons but it did and I'm now in the market for a new one. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasona...

Re: RIP Cruiser Uno :(
I used the new Uno last year and it was fine which is more than can be said for the absurdly expensive Trilux which seems to positively encourage growth on the outboard leg.

Moderation here is the very epitome of fair-minded even-handedness as you are all no doubt aware. Anyone who disagrees with this statement will of course be instantly banned.

Re: Greece
Pretty sure I've sung the praises of the Ionian to you a few times. Wall to wall sunshine (with the odd thunderstorm) and fairly predictable breezes, no tides, almost no rocks to hit, nearly as many harbours and anchorages (and more pubs) as the West and much cheapness - what's not to like?

Don't mention the scope. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it alright.claymore wrote:How do we avoid this becoming an anchoring thread?

Oh dear. They might not have been the cheapest but if you needed a grip-thribley in a hurry there was a reasonable chance they would have one.

There are far too many individualists in sailing in general and on this forum in particular.
I'm up for the Oban Inn if it could be the evenings of 23,24,25/11 or 8,9/12 but not all of them.

Or I could do Edinburgh at these times too.

I've only been in once but I'm pretty sure it's not Loch a Choire - the land is much higher all around.

Re: How's your Summer going?
We seem to be in the right place for now. Orkney and Shetland have had mainly brilliant sunshine for the past 2-3 weeks. There was a very wet day in Fair Isle and a gale 2 weeks ago and some quite strong winds odd times but overall we've been having a very good time. We didn't expect it to be warm ...

Too easy huh?
If you're planning a cruise in August I am reliably informed that the last fortnight will be superb sailing weather.
