Farewell Oban Marina (Kerrera)?

Post by cpedw »

I just heard an unsubstantiated rumour that Oban Marina on Kerrera has been sold to a fish farm operation. The source thinks that marina operations will stop but no idea how soon.

.
And so the Oban waterfront farce is complete. New pavements, nowhere to tie a boat up.

That is very sad news if its true. That part of the world is starting to state quite clearly that it isn't interested in boating tourism.

Sad indeed .. the turnover in boats is too slow - not enough time to empty our pockets!

Deliver people by the busload only please is the message ?

A closing date set for 4th August at 12 noon.

Time yet for your bid?

But if you wanted a bit more privacy, then how about this "marina"?

So someone has probably made an offer, not necessarily taking it out of the marina business. I don't know my informant; just a casual conversation with a stranger. i know, mother did warn me...

If only i could afford anything that Strutt & Parker are selling.

If you want a business to run, fine. Not quite so handy as a private house? Anyway, Kilmelford run an effective bigger business on the other side of the loch!

Has anyone heard if a deal has been struck? And if so, who is the buyer?

So its not sold. Story on the marina website news section. Looks like it will go on to 2018 before a sale is considered again, improved ferry service and some improvements in water supply promised. Good to see the excellent staff keep their jobs.
