Author Emily St. John Mandel

A post apocalyptic novel; but wait it has received critical acclaim and is not a horror or adventure story at all. It is about a troupe of Shakespearean actors who travel through a country 20 years after a flue pandemic has killed sufficient people that society as we know it: electricity, city living, internet, mobile communications, mass transportation disappears. The horror of the early years is briefly mentioned but all that is in the past. The story weaves together characters and events from before, during and after the epidemic and demonstrates how serendipity and association mix it all up. A ripping read, well written and if one feels that the world we know is under threat, maybe a wee peek at what the future could hold (as opposed to Mad Max fantasy). A very interesting read. I downloaded from iBooks but available in softback and from other download sites as well.
