Heads up - It looks like Windows 10 has murdered another victim.
Grib US goes "not responding" and no files are downloaded, although you can still display previously stored data.
Shame. I really liked that one.
However, the dangling seaweed forecasts a few days in Arran could be appropriate, so off we go.

I've got other laptops with older versions of windows installed, so can do the file download. I was going to dig one out as I need a print server if I'm not going to buy a new printer. However, tonight I see that CMap is not running either.
I think a roll-back to V7 is in the offing.

I think the biggest problem is going to be finding hardware drivers for W10. Since I only just migrated to W7, I'm in no rush to change again. For those with older, but perfectly functional peripherals, W7 drivers often didn't exist, but strangely Vista drivers usually work perfectly well.
How that sort of problem with W10 can be solved I don't yet know. MS want you all to buy new machines after each update anyway

My brother reckons W10 is the bee's knees, but then he used to be able to cause a blue screen by simply walking into the same room as a PC!

My hauppauge television dongle has gone as well. Tried to roll back to 7, but #2 son had relieved me of the backup files in order to prepare for a clean re-install.
Toiled all afternoon trying to get an XP box onto a local wifi net to share files. breath not being held.

CMap still working for me, well it would wouldn't it I've still got windows 98 on the boat laptop. Finding Navionics on the Tablet a bit easier. Shame really I like my old Panasonic Toughbook.

Elton from Hauppauge worked a miracle and showed great patience with me.
We now have the ship's telly back in operation. (hint, use Version 7 not 8 for a myTV.T dongle))
Now I need to focus on the rest.

UGrib now back again. Dismount old version. If there's a problem deleting files do a power/restart then manually delete the items in C:programs (x86)/ugrib. Then download and install the latest free version. Right click the exe icon and from compatibility choose Win8.
Nice to have it back.
Now the major loss is CMap/CM93 which opens but keeps crashing. Shame, I like to have softcharts available to see where you guys are talking about as I ignore the telly in favour of my laptop.

I had forgotten all about this issue until last night when I thought I would download a grib file for the forthcoming day or two on the boat.
Saltyjohn is coming along and he's a bit of a stickler so I wanted everything to look tickettyboo.
Dismay and tears at bedtime as the Grib US site threw me out - rather rudely, I have to add.
Anyway, the Claymore not being a man to take this kind of nonsense, went on a hunting mission and discovered "PredictWind" which does all and more the usgrib ever did. All in glorious technicolour and I have an "app" for my singsong intergalactic smarter than the average phone so I can see all the wind arrows. In colour!

And I'm on Mac so nae windaes nasties to worry about.
