Kinloss rescue centre closure confirmed

Post by Nick »

.
The UK Government has confirmed that the Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC ) at Kinloss will close and operations will be moved to Fareham in Hampshire.

Apparently this will allow allow the UK to 'follow global best practice'

It is probably a good idea amalgamating the centres in so far as the detection and coordination of air and sea rescue activities is concerned; I doubt that two centres are really necessary. The previous move to Scotland was probably a political sop and this is the desired outcome for those in power.

I would rather that these types of jobs be spread around a bit and as such I see no reason why the whole shebang could not have been moved to Moray, after all it's hardly a metropolis. That would have been the more sound proposition as the technology is entirely portable and the function independent of location. It pains me to say, but more jobs for the south to the cost of the north.
