15 where izzits

Post by mm5aho »

While looking out some files, my mouse stumbled on this...

West Coast Scotland Places.
Each place is described by some facts of history or geography or other interest.

1. My lighthouse is not named after me, but after another island on which it’s not. The name of my locality sounds like a sausage, so Mull that over!
2. Strong SNP links, and more than I can take, and what’s that lighthouse at about 240 magnetic? Not Skerryvore but sounds similar!
3. My links to Appin are literary, but my location is almost torrid. A covenant ended here.
4. My caves are said to be musical, but what did Mendelssohn know?
5. I’m a town, a port, a bank and 5 lochs that don’t know whether they’re east or west.
6. I can see the canal, and Doris whatsisname can see my two peaks. You could probably walk to me from the mainland at low tide.
7. We are two islets named as a unit, in a harbour where peas and vinegar were once legendary. Moorings surround us, even one or two between. We cannot see any Mill in this wee port.
8. You might almost giggle at my name, and there are rocks named after me. I’m a bit south of a bay that’s almost diminished. At least I fank so!
9. These isles are tiny. Craig said so!
10. The cops might chase you here if you get too close, but really, they’re cool.
11. What would you pay for a close haircut here? The skys the limit.
12. My 200 souls can see a distillery and a castle. Hutton was confused by the unconformity.
13. Ferries I have none. Richard Hill doesn’t live on me, but I have a great view of the hag goddess of winter washing her hair.
14. Slated for playing with stones, am I the smallest populated Inner Hebridean island?
15. My isolation has been the desolation of many. I saw the light in 1872, but blushed with a red stripe later. Population 0, height 36ft.

So far, on basis of first to answer each correctly the score is:
Silkie 4
Aquaplane: 2
Barnacle Bill: 2
Nick: 4

That leaves the following questions seeking correct answers: 3, 6, 7.
7 is right location, wrong name.
3 is close to the lighthouse featured in another thread.
