They may be facing the wrong way but they are going in the right direction. They are towed out stern first!

Possibly, but judging by the guy with the axe and the diesel smoke from the tug in front, she gives every impression of going forwards. Anyway, with tugs fore and aft she'd be hardly likely to be towed backwards under Tower Bridge for a ceremonial occasion and a press call, IMHO.
I'd guess the pic was not of her leaving, but of her arriving there last week.

No she was really towed stern first. She was alongside HMS Belfast facing upriver. I don't think they turn them in the pool anymore since one unlucky RN type managed to lay his ship alongside London Bridge.
I work not far from Tower Bridge and have seen several Navy vessels leave, all of them towed stern first.
Today HMS Belfast has a large cruise ship alongside.
