What Mooring?

Post by Clyde_Wanderer »

If I were to purchase and set my own mooring what would the board suggest as the best type/method?
I am led to believe that some moorings consist of two mushroom anchors set some distance apart with a substantial ground chain between and a riser chain from the midpoint up to/through a hippo bouy.
Do any of you guys know of any other type/setup?
HB is just over 7000LB displacement but I would like a safety scope of double that.
All advice appreciated.

Rule 1 is what do others in the area do?

There are several "standard" ways, including sinker (heavy iron or concrete weight), anchors in various configurations and ground chains (several moorings using a common chain on the seabed, with anchors or sinkers at the ends). There is more info here

I'm no expert, by the way.

Derek I am not sure what is been used in the bay I am in.
I am reluctant to ask the hirer who I have my mooring from, but I did see one he had lifted lying on the deck of his boat and it was the type I described in my op.
That looks like a really good booklet you have linked to, I will have a good read of it.
Greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
