Interesting wildlife

Post by Fingal »

Today at around 1135 we sighted a Bonxie or Great Skua about 3-4c East of the north end of the Forth (Rail) Bridge. I have seen Arctic Skuas in this neighbourhood on a few occasions at this time of year but that was definitely my first Firth of Forth Bonxie. Anyone else seen anything interesting or notable recently?

Ken, I think I saw your burd just west of Inchcolme yesterday, thought it was an immature gannet at 1st glance but 2nd said a bl**dy big black seagull. It seemed to have nae fear of the boat and made no attempt to either paddle or flap away.

Yes, bonxies seen on the Forth recently as well as bonxies off the north coast of Ardnamurchan earlier in the summer. I do not recall having ever seen them so far south on the west coast.

Nasty big barstewards they are too. Make Herring gulls look like snow-white angels.
