Does anyone know why HULLABULLOO II only seems to have competed in one race - The Firth of Lorne on Monday 1st August?

I have a very vague interest as I was unfortunate enough to be one of the queue of cars to be stuck behind her as she was being towed on the road on Sunday 31 July.

I caught up with the queue when the swing bridge at Laggan was closed to cars. I didn't get past HULLABULLOO II until she turned towards Oban and I continued towards Glencoe.

The red car (Audi ?) never got the rig above 40mph and as might be expected was often slower. The car mirrors were such that they couldn't see past the beam of the boat on the straight but a glance in the corners would have shown the snake trailing behind and pulling into a lay-by for a few minutes might have been an expected courtesy.

An ideal opportunity to allow a lot of cars past without causing any difficulty to HULLABULLOO II would have been to travel at less than the 40mph limit on the dual carriageway through Fort William but that didn't happen either.

I realise that an HGV would have been legally limited to a maximum of 40 on that route but their average would have been better, and I also realise that the maximum that HULLABULLOO II should have been towed at was 50 but the journey felt frustratingly slow - slower than most car / caravan combos would have achieved.

Anyway, rant over, why didn't she compete in the other races?

Not sure this is the reason , but I know one wee boat ( ie a trailerable one) lost her mast early in the week, she may have been the one.

So maybe a case of karma ???

They were definitely around till the end of the week, the crew were just popping the boat on the trailer on Friday evening when we arrived in Dunstaffnage. No idea what had happened to their race plans tho.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the info.

I wasn't too happy with the driver who was towing her, but I wouldn't have wished a broken mast on her.
