Cuan Transit Poll
.
The RYA are trying to estimate the number of yacht transits of Cuan Sound per year. I thought we could perhaps conduct our own poll on here.
For purposes of the poll a transit is any single passage through the sound in either direction.

Re: Cuan Transit Poll
I have to admit being one of the two who voted "never". This is not because I have any aversion to the transit of Cuan sound, but it's just a wee bit far from Peterheid for me to use it on anything like a regular basis.
Now, if I ever come to the west, I would most likely pass through if only to see what all the fuss is about. Perhaps there should be a category "Once every 10 years", in which case I might just come over for the hell of it !

Re: Cuan Transit Poll
the two replies above may indicate that the inclusion of a simple " never " category may skew the outcome of the poll. there must be millions more people who could answer " never " than all the other questions put together.
it would perhaps be better if the category was read as and answered on the basis that -
" i sail in the area BUT never use the sound ".

You're quite correct, but nosey bu99ers like me have to put something in before we can see the results. Perhaps we need a category for - "I never use it as I'm too far away, but I want to see the result"little boy blue wrote:the two replies above may indicate that the inclusion of a simple " never " category may skew the outcome of the poll. there must be millions more people who could answer " never " than all the other questions put together.

Well, I didn't vote as, even though I've been through there a couple of times, as a visitor, rather than a local, it doesn't seem fair.

Re: Cuan Transit Poll

The poll is designed to help get a rough idea how many transits of Cuan by yachts there are in a year. Voting 'never' doesn't skew the result in any way and gives people who don't use Cuan a chance to see the result of the poll. Obviously there should only be one vote per boat . . . I can let you know now that there is one vote too many for the 10+ category because the 1st mate of Fairwinds voted as well as me, so there are only two boats so far showing 10+ transits in a season.

Re: Cuan Transit Poll
I just realised that I don't get out much. My one and only trip through Cuan was last year and I've only been through Pladda 4 times.
I didn't vote.

Re: Cuan Transit Poll
First time we 'did the Cuan' was before I knew about tidal gates. (must've come out through Crinan)
You've already guessed - we were the only ones going out!
Our 12H Farymann was bursting it's gonads and that damned pylon just stood there and looked at us for ages.
Good old days when the learning curve was steep. Now it's flatter but I still slither backwards.

Unlike some other Fora, I find that that I can see the results of this poll without having to vote first.Rowana wrote:but nosey bu99ers like me have to put something in before we can see the results.

I can't see the results unless I vote. I wonder why

I have passed it quite a few times but never been through. I have even stood on the shore watching boats go through.

I've only been through twice. Once each way and about twenty years apart. Never did like the sensation!

Re: Cuan Transit Poll
I am another occasional user. I do not get through from the Clyde every year but I usually go through Cuan in one direction or the other on the years when I am out there. As that has not been for over two years now I felt I had to vote "never" but should really be counted as someone who would object to the closure of the passage.

Re: Cuan Transit Poll
well - about 110 transits per annum so far, and almost a third of voters never use the sound.
i wonder what that tells us
