Online source for marine electrical components
At some point this year I am going to have to bite the bullet and do a partial re-wire. The wiring to and from most electrical items seems to be ok, but the general mess around the batteries and the breaker panel is a bit depressing. Does anyone know of a good, clear, website for purchase of DC breakers and busbars, plus other various switches etc? I've had a good scour around but there's nothing obvious that fits the bill.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi
Try a company called CPC, a Farnell company. Just type CPC on Yahoo and look for the Farnell bit. I typed "DC citcuit breaker" in their search window, there various sizes near the bottom that are suitable. They also stock everything under the sun and will deliver to anybody with some money.
All the best

Blast. Knew there would be a hitch! Thanks - I was hoping for something a bit more marine-orientated, and have found a couple of interesting places in the meantime.Arranman wrote:...and will deliver to anybody with some money.

Re: Online source for marine electrical components
I've not used any of them, but what about:
http://www.jgtech.com/Elecconect.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (site is a pain to navigate though)
and
http://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/cgi-b ... mmerce.cgi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and
http://www.power-store.com/index.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The latter seem quite pricey, especially for things like cable, connectors etc.

You forgot the links Shuggy.Shuggy wrote:I was hoping for something a bit more marine-orientated, and have found a couple of interesting places in the meantime.
I'm intending to do a spot of re-wiring myself and had hoped this thread might throw up a few pointers.

For generally good prices but an idiosyncratic (thanks to firefox for the spelling) website, try ASAP

Me again.
Have done a few boat re-wires, and found 2.5mm artic grade tinned cable to be easy to get from B&Q type stores
You could also try "Kojaycat Vehicle Wiring" on Ebay.
All the best

Re: Online source for marine electrical components
OK, I'm feeling suitably reprimanded!
I need to make up 3 separate panels (possibly 4) for breakers, engine control panel and a blanking panel which I will un-blank by sticking the Autohelm auxiliary control into. I've looked for suitable breakers and am not there yet as I would like a range that has integrated LEDs. If not, I will wire up my own ones (the main panel's in a weird place and is hard to see properly so easy to leave circuits on by mistake).
The link I have found for making up panels is http://www.rosesigns.co.uk/engraving-panels.php. I have not contacted them yet as I am going to design the panels and get them into PDF at full scale. Panel design has been done in the back of my work notebook but I need to take some measurements and decide on a breaker design.
If anyone knows of breakers (in a range of currents) with integrated LEDs, any pointers gratefully received.
Thanks.

Re: Online source for marine electrical components
I have an extremely intermittent fault which is the reason for my re-wire and I'm having difficulty sourcing a 9/10 panel which does not inclde illuminated (my eyes aren't so bad yet that I can't see whether a switch is up or down) rocker switches. If anyone is skipping such a device I'll pay good money for it.

My panel is under a wooden flap underneath the hatch! But I'm afraid that what I have would not suit you...

Furneaux Riddall seem to carry a big range and be competitively priced.

Thanks Silkie - that's the best site yet.
As you can probably see, I have some work to do...

I also like Kojaycat's prices for tinned cable and the fact that you buy it in multiples of 5m. It doesn't say it is, so it presumably isn't thin wall but at 56p/m for 2.5 sq.mm. they're hard to beat for small quantities IMO.
