How to deter Swedish Blonde from staying on the boat?

Post by tcm »

I am seeking advice about how i might deter a blonde swedish girl from staying on the boat? I'm sure many people hereabouts will have successfully deterred and/or gotten rid of countless youthful blonde swedish women trying to hitch a ride on their boat. Anyways, I'm in Grenada, and she wants to go to St martin at the other (northern) end of the island chain in early feb. BUT she'l be in St Lucia, halfway up and a bit more of a beat to windward NNE than just wham 350 miles direct NNW to grenada to st martin. I suppose i could just ignore her emails, or fail to turn up, but that seems rather ungentlemanly? Or do i have no option but to hack up to st lucia and let her on? She's 23, a kitesurfer and has loads of kitesurfing gear hence a small inter-island plane is no good cos can't get the gear in, she says. All advice welcome, thanks.

Dear Matthew
There are all sorts of reasons why small planes can be very unsuitable modes of transport.

I think you need to carefully consider if this would be classed as a commercial passage, and if that would have an effect on your Health and Safety Risk Assessment Plan.
Its nice to see you are lining up potential suitors for TCM Minor, and taking so much care. My dad never brought me home a Swedish blonde, 23 or otherwise.

I think we might need some pictures before we can make a rational decision.

you should be flattered...I think she is flying a kite :)

And if she did so on the boat, I am sure you would get an extra knot

Could you say that you are a friend of Dorothy, like to go cruising in Brighton, refer to 'Sir Elton' as a close personal friend and ask if she has a brother called Roger who could come along as the cabin boy?

Obviously, a photo was sent? (Otherwise, to apply as crew starting with "I am a blonde" would be an entirely different and problematic situation.) Was it described "see photo attached when I was 23"? I know of a jim'll-fix-it granny who has kite surfed although being dragged along by 50hp might not be the same thing ...

You could stop off at Tobago Cays on the way north? Lots of Sunsail boats end up in Grenada getting steadily more morose and blotto as the task of heading NE back to St L and into the trades weighs upon them.
