No internet! Im an Baltic advisor??Amazingly

Post by trouville »

I just found a wi-fi The EU has banned open wi-fi,there terrified after seeing the Iran coverage. 3500€ & one month prison!

Lots to post later

As went towards Menton i had lots of people asking me for info about cruising the baltic!!From April until now there must be thousands quitting the med. Unfortunately you wouldnt notice its still full & im once again on the canals (where it rains a lot & not always warm)

At first i said dont go but now being serious i tell them its a wonderful place to go (which it is) only the season a bit short

There are places to be found for winter lay up but not always exactly where you might want to be

I also began suggesting Scotland which is or was??A terrific place to sail,

Are there places to leave a boat to be found still in Scotland?? In general or only certain areas? Is it very costly for a place per year???

Hope to get back soon lots to tell this year an amazing time.

Keep out of Spanish jails! There not that good

Hi Trouville, nice to hear from you again. About Scotland, there are commercial moorings available for £600 or £700 for a full year (maybe less in some areas); also moorings at sailing clubs and a of people have their own private mooring.

Where it's an annual mooring, you may also have to pay for winter hard standing, either from your mooring supplier or from another source - the lift out and storage will be extra. The season is usually from about March to the of end of September for most boats; the wind strengths are greater at the extremities, as are the frequency of strong winds.

But you may find a mooring in a sufficently sheltered spot to be able to leave her in all year. We are planning on leaving Fairwinds in this year.

Good to hear from you again Trouville.

good to be back!Im having real problems finding internet. Now ive just helped bring a boat down.Ive biked into Montpelier to use the only connection i know of outside Mac do or Quick.

Its taken almost an hour for the anti virus & firewall to update then flock crashed.I opened firefox which updated to v3.011 before telling me to install FF 3.5 which downloaded the restarted the system peww!!

I point out that boats heading for the Baltic may not find winter (or summer) moorings exactly where they might want & that Denmark can be quite expensive. Then i ask if they thought of Scotland?Which brings Irland as an alternative area to explore.

There are many that have had enough of the crowds full ports & anchorages, when they look at the price they now have to pay (about 6/7000€ pa for a 10m boat) enough is enough.

The Baltic is the place that most are choosing to escape & i have to admit it sounds wonderful.When i say that a lot of anchorages will be quite full up there & others that would be ideal marked as private or no anchoring because of cables etc or the expensive resturants which arnt that good either etc no one wants to hear.There for i now speak of the good points only & provide them with a list of virtualy all the ports there are that they can phone around to fix a place ;

The only reason many arnt coming to Scotland is becouse of the crossing & tides perhaps thats a good thing keep Scotland free.

Ive been having a few troubles, another solar panel was stolen then i almost lost my bike.I turned a hose on the thief that stopped him!Id shipped the bike & was leaving when the gendarmes arrived called by a French man who saw his bike being taken.

They came along to me i stopped,& held on to the guard rails of the boat next to me,instead of being helpful they told me i shouldnt have sprayed the theif! That i had to apologise to him!! I asked if he would pay for the lock he broke? They wernt interested.

They wanted me to give them my details that the theif could charge me!!! I got quite annoyed as it was the same person that didnt want to know about the panel.I let go & continued to leave telling them what i thought of their help.

When he wanted to stop me leaving he started pulling the boat next to me in,i took the hose which was on the bow of the boat & sprayed the Gendarme! He went mad but let the lines go;i left quickly

In Spain i wasnt so lucky

Its grey a bit chilly hear today could rain very odd summer.
