YOTBLOG to close later this year

Post by Nick »

Today Yotblog was hacked. It wasn't the world's most serious hack, and I have removed the relevant code so the site is safe to access. However, there is still a strange line below the closing html tag in each blog page that I cannot locate the source of, and I am very worried about the security of the software. I paid good money to upgrade it earlier this year, but the product is no longer be supported, and I fear that I will have to shut Yotblog down later this year as there is no way I can guarantee that the site will remain secure.

Apologies for the inconvenience, but in the medium term it would probably be best to consider transferring your blog to another platform such as Blogger, Wordpress or a dedicated sailing blog platform such as Sailblogs.

You can back up your blog following instructions on the BluerMoment forums at http://www.oceanbluesailing.co.uk/phpBB ... =10&t=3233" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(This will create a static copy of your existing blog - unfortunately there is no way of migrating it to another platform, but I am prepared to back up your site and host it for free on yotblog.com - contact me if you are interested in this option)

I have tried hard to keep Yotblog going, but I can no longer afford the time and resources to support an outdated and unsupported piece of software. The real villains are Splashpress Media, who appear to have purchased the Bloghoster platform with the specific intention of allowing it to die as it was competition for them. A lot of niche blogging sites have crumbled as a result of security loopholes in the script.

There will be another announcement when a definite date for closure is set.

Sorry to hear that. Is there somewhere where we can all go as an alternative? (You may well have already answered this, but for the sake of us thickos who aren't so au fait with the technology could you maybe explain in short words?)
