Hi,
I frequently get asked about how the upper atmosphere interacts with the surface, and how you can read upper air charts. Well, today has provided a good example of upper air meteorology at work as an air trough passed eastwards through the country.
However, because I wanted to show a few graphics I thought it best to create a PDF document for you to read at your leisure. You can download it at http://www.weatherweb.net/showersandclearingtrough.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hope you enjoy it and find it of interest.

Hi Simon
Thanks for this. I really enjoy the weather musings you put up. I find them clear and helpful. One slightly daft question about notation. I have noticed "troughs" before on synoptic charts drawn as dashed lines are these dashed lines always an upper air trough?
Thanks.
Steve
