Energy Saver Bulbs at Lidl

Post by ash »

My local Lidl has a pallet of Philips Genie ww 827 Bulbs. Marked as 11 Watt, 600 lumen, and equivalent to a 60 watt tungsten. The individual boxes have a band printed with In partnership with British Gas

They are advertised as £0.49 each, but are on special promotion at 5 for £0.40.

I was slow to change to these types of lamps - I wouldn't have paid the high purchase price that used to be required. Now they seem to be available as freebees or heavily subsidised - by various electricity supply companies - why would they want to reduce the need for their product?

Can't afford not to take them at that price!
However, I'm sure I read somewhere that 'they' are backing off from making them mandatory now.
Can't remember if it's a safety issue with the cold startup delay, or EMC (interference) problems.

We have a cupboard full of them as several commercial, and well meaning and right on organisations, send them out each year in order to reduce energy demand.
