.
Just heard thatTheMainSail.com is to bite the dust.
I have to say I am not surprised. It appeared to me from the start to be just another cynical attempt by a nondescript and directionless publishing outfit to jump on the (perceived) sailing money machine. They approached me over a tie-up, but it was immediately apparent that their site was to be created from the (unpaid) sweat of their members, the vast majority of their copy being member-written reviews with some affiliate-based shopping opportunities.
(The deal as I understood it was that they would graciously publish some of the BM articles on the condition that I contracted to write more articles exclusively for them - on which they would own the copyright.)
Still, the site attracted a loyal membership, apparently fostered a sense of community and hosted an attractive and useful set of articles for all that, and I understand that many MainSailers are now a bit lost as Magicalia prepare to pull the plug. Any and all are of course welcome to join our small but perfectly formed online community here.

Nick's Missed A Trick!!!!!!
Ah Nick, I have you at a disadvantage.
They didn't stop with asking Bluemoment dot com, they trawled the t'interweb for a perfect partner to hand on the baton to, and they have a taker. In fact it's been there a while now.
Shock! Horror!! THE OTHER PLACE!!!!!!!!

Not at all
.
Interesting that they didn't find it economic to continue with the MainSail when so many others are apparently still going:
AVReview.co.uk
BIKEmagic.com
FISHINGmagic.com
GOLFmagic.com
OUTDOORSmagic.com
RoadCyclingUK.com
ThinkBaby.co.uk
ProTourNews.com
ThinkCamera.com
Visordown.com
JuniorMagazine.co.uk
PracticalParenting.co.uk
Is the yachting market saturated now?
This is where I first heard about it Jim - and they certainly haven't contacted me recently - I was referring to them contacting me when the site first started and they were looking for free content they could resell.Ah Nick, I have you at a disadvantage.

Yes the Yachting market is very small in comparison to those subjects.
After all, nearly every household has a child ot two, ergo a bicycle or 4 etc etc.
They are the Have Nots. We are the Have Yachts. My Government informed of that nugget in a rare moment of lucidity.
They probably assume we all have Swiss bank accounts and nothing to do but idle out a few column inches for nowt every day just to stave off the boredom. Gits.
