Echo sounder again

Post by Nick »

.
Well, in spite of fitting several assorted ferrite rings we still had the interference problem on our depth sounder last season.

Is it worth getting another one (NASA Target, not too expensive) and is it possible to test it in the yard? (I very much suspect the answer to no.2 is don't be silly . . . )

Sounder

Post by Pete Cooper »

Nick, as usual I can answer none of your questions.....but - you remember that my depth sounder wasn't working? I now have reason to believe that my problem is a dodgy connection in a junction box behind the main switch panel. I will be looking at this whilst she is out of the water, and if my suspicions are correct I will have a spare B&G Focus unit and transducer that I acquired. If this is of any use to you I am sure we could sort something out.

I have a spare NASA transducer kicking around somewhere. Never been used to my knowledge - PM me if any use. Also have other bits. Will be over your way in next couple of weeks and could leave somewhere handy (Riverside Garage for example).

Test

Post by Rowana »

I seem to remember reading somewhere, TOP perhaps, that sounders can be tested by putting the transducer in a piece of plastic drain pipe. I can't remember the details, but I think the pipe was placed on the ground to reflect the echo. The pipe was used so that the echo didn't escape!

Someone may recall the EXACT way to do it. My memory isn't what it used to be!
