Wandered through Easdale Sound yesterday returning to Kilmelford and saw a boat in the harbour on Seil - think it was a blue Fisher 30 something.
Is that a viable mooring spot or are you best anchoring in the Sound itself.

Number of years since I last went through the sound. What is the depth like now?

We last anchored just off the pier and enjoyed coffee ashore.

We got down to 4.4m about 1hr after HW (Oban)
We had breakfast once tied to the pier - I seem to think that if anchored it would be worth having a peep around as the tide turned- not sure that the CCC sailing directions say whats on the bottom.

Bottom is mostly slate I believe. Some advice from our webmaster here. We anchored west of the slate wharf in a flat calm last year but were advised to use the mooring for an overnight stay and were glad we did when the wind picked up from the NW.

It's a mooring - dropping the hook would be a bit pointless as I believe it's over 30m deep there - it's a flooded quarry. Also, I have been told it can be a bit gnarly getting in and out as they left a sticky-up bit when they dynamited the entrance.

Sound is filling up with moorings, but anchoring temporarily is OK - loose slate on the bottom, so not much good in a blow. MOre of a lunch stop than a cosy overnighter.

The gas regulator for the real ale pumps and the Guinness pump exploded on Saturday - the rumour that I drank all the guest ale is not true.

The guy definately said you'd drunk all the guests beer and as I'm a guest and you are a local - you've drunk my beer.
