Why wont XP load?After the three dashes a blank screen?

My IBM X40 has been working well untill now.

When i start, the first screen with the small box & tree oblongs passing through starts,then when the screen saying "starting windows" should start theres just a blank dark screen.

I have to repress the start button untill it stops then pressing F7 restart sometimes i get " start windows from the last good start" somtimes it just tries to start & gives the blank screen

I was told its because its to hot???But its not very hot hear,in fact its just 22 degrees & rain hear

Is my laptop about to give up???

Whe you switch it on do you get a series of beeps? If so can you describe them - number and spacing? This will help identify the issue.

no beeps at all? Unless i press F7&F8 at the same time.

It just starts as it would normally but then when it should show the next screen it stops the HD stops then theres just the battery light and "Z" in a circle which always show

The screen is off not even dark just off i have to stop it otherwise it stays that way

I have to stop now ill come back tomorrow before i leave in case you post again tonight
