I have just ordered a pair of Plastimo cowl vents with the spring-loaded damper version of dorade box.
They will displace a pair of Tannoy "flying saucers" in the aft cabin which don't really do a good job, especially if we have the wheelhouse covers closed and it's humid.
Anyone (especially the Claymore fleet!) tried them?

So far getting a much improved draught down below.
Also the mainsheet traveller is an addition, so we can properly offset the boom while motor-sailing.
Will see how both modifications work next spring.

Did you say that the mainsheet traveler is a new addition?
Is it bronze, and did you buy it s/h?
They sont half pack the boats in tightly there, where ever you are.
I was thinking of this type of vent, as the s/s fs type dont give much ventillation as you say, the only problem is that they would be very obstrusive on the coachroof, especially above the galley.
Where did you get yours from, and can they be rotated, and is there some means of diverting any water that gets splashed onto/into them?

The traveller came loose with the boat, and is anodised alloy of some sort. The price tag was still on it -50 odd squids.
The vents are rotateable, and have a saucer-like disk inside supported by a spring. If a big greeny comes aboard, it fills the saucer, weighing it down to close the vent. The "saucer" then drains through small limber holes, and rises up again, opening the vent ready for the next one...
Only possible down side may be 'moving noises' in gusts during the night.
We're ashore in Troon, and you're right, I think the hull polishing will need to be finished after launch day!

If you ever want to cover your vents for any reason, you could get two pictures of the Telly Tubbies and tape them on, over the openings, they would look brilliant.

I fitted a photo-electric job to one of my vents which seems to work ok but I remember you posting a while ago about venting the aft cabin - I fitted a hatch right under where your chequer-plate device is - if you go into google earth and then get yourself over to Craighouse on Jura - Claymore is sat there and I think you can see the vent on the pic. I'd check on that but am really supposed to be writing my Self-Assessment Report right now. This is a very big deal in FE - although, sadly not one which I find particularly engaging!
