Strange non-emergency in the Corryvreckan today

Post by Nick »

.

Yacht Concerned: Yacht Concerned, Wayferers in the Corryvreckan - do you need assistance?

Clyde Coastguard: Wayferer in the Corryvreckan, state the nature of your emergency

There then followed a series of bizarre exchanges on CH16. First CC asked any vessels in the vicinity to assist. Then CC turned at least 3 vessels (including a RIB and a mobo) away as Yacht Concerned was already assisting. Then Yacht Concerned reported it could no longer assist as it could not make headway against the tide. Then another vessel reported that it could see one Wayfarer and was told by CC that it wasn't. Everyone seemed confused as to whether or not anyone had actually spoken to said Wayferers, and the 'incident' appeared to fizzle out with no-one sure whether or not there had been one, two or any Wayferers, where they were now or if indeed they had ever been in trouble (assuming they existed in the first place).

Most untypical of Clyde Coastguard and a real bu**er's muddle. Possibly a newbie to the job. Hopefully no-one actually was in any danger . . .
