Not very clear about how many pontoons there will be but the bit about them not being intended for overnight stays seems such a waste.
On further investigation this may have something to do with it.

Jings!"Studies show that the development will cost in the region of £158,000, which includes consultancy fees, planning permissions and maintenance of the pontoon."

Value for money?
We were there a few days ago. Yes, a pontoon for landing the dinghy would be good ( as our rib is too heavy to cart up and down the tide line.) BUT, what about something to do when you get there, apart from deer-watching? The butcher, the pub and, if you walk far enough, the distillery and campsite shop. Rather, spend 5k on a wee pontoon and the rest on livening up the place. and what happened to the other 7 moorings (for those who need them)

Re: Value for money?
When I was a youngster there were (if memory serves me) from north to south in the village, my Aunt's souvenier shop, the main tearooms and petrol pump, the butcher, the bakery plus general stores and tearoom, the Hotel, a sweetie shop, a bank, the co-op, the post office, a general stores and fishing tackle shop and thence past the Village Hall (a film once a week, dancing twice a week) and the Youth Hostel to the tea room at the golf course run by Ruby(?) McAlister (a Peruvian Indian lady), her children and her Maid. At the time I thought that there was very little in the village - Sheesh, how times change! Mind you, there was no (legal) distillery then, the food at the Tearooms was vile (If I am never again forced to eat braised beef with 'orrible round rubbery bits in I shall die happy) and nostalgia isn't what it used to be....sahona wrote:BUT, what about something to do when you get there, apart from deer-watching? Cheers,

Oldgaffer, I think you previously mentioned a hankering to return to Arran to retire and slosh around in boats? I just hope you have visited since your youth, as, in this case, it can't be recaptured. The place is lovely, you can't beat the sunlight on the hills and the wildlife, but there's nobody there........However, the bus ride to Brodick is great, and of course, free - to those who really matter.
