Glasgow Green to Dalmarnock was enough for me on a crappy Wednesday afternoon, although the river was so warm in those days that cold was seldom a problem. If you managed to fall in, you were an ambulance case, due to the filth that constituted The Clyde in the mid 70's, but it beat the alternative, rugby.

You must have rowed against Hyndland Academy for sons of the landed gentry then. In my day if you fell in, stomach pump was unilaterally applied before anything. - so I played rugby......
