A82 New Average Speed Cameras

Post by BlowingOldBoots »

There will be new average speed cameras coming into operation soon on the A82 between the Helensburgh roundabout near Duckbay and Tarbert. They don't look like the usual motorway style yellow posts with blue cameras. They are very large posts with no carriageway overhang, grey in colour, yellow top band, with multiple devices that look more like radars than cameras. Not sure what use they are beyond confirming that the average speed is 30 mph :-) on this potentially fast stretch of road.

In support of the strategy to maximise transit time to the west coast and inconvenience as many citizens as possible, the A83 contraflow at the rest and be thankful continues to be in operation, as well as the A816 escorted contraflow, while plans to improve the A82 beyond Tarbert remain a fantasy. Also average speed cameras between Tyndrum and Lix Toll are operational as well, if you fancy a blast that way.

So no rushing to get to the costa Lorn flesh pots or you well get fined, making an expensive day out at Maggie Five Fingers Pie Shoppe and Sleeping Emporium, even more so.

You have been warned.
What's that? Dunno! Should we be worried about that? Dunno! How? Ah dunno!

Lix toll to the Green Welly average speed cameras have been a "thing" for me for the last few years. more scary, was a friend who drove me along that stretch a few weeks ago and only on the end of the return to lix toll did he realise he'd been in an average speed camera zone...twice

Not just in the average speed areas, but almost everywhere, cars don't leave space for you if you overtake. Its becoming a lost art and passing a couple of cars quickly (to minimise TED: Time Exposed to Danger) before slowing again once past them (but maybe doing 60-65 vs 50-55) often gets a waved fist or flashed lights. what's that all about?
