Heating

Post by Aja »

Well the 30 odd year old Eberspacher D3L has finally been replaced. The Eber coughed and smoked. A lot. It was getting right embarrassing so it was. I spent good money on a new glow plug to no avail so I was instructed to for a new dependable heater before the next round of holidays right after the eldest daughters wedding at the end of July.

I know which daughter in their right mind gets married in the sailing season. Well the one we're feart to argue with for a start.

Went for the Autoterm/Planar 4D which apart from the existing mounting bracket which needed a bodge to get the bolts through and replacement of the through hull went amazingly well.

Took six hours to fit including going to the shop for some sealant for the through Hull and stops for coffees and biscuits.

Priming was slow but straight forward and I'll be honest compared to the old system it fair belts out the heat.

Don't know what a new Eber costs these days but I bought the Autoterm in the summer sale for £541.

It doesn't have any frills just vent, heat up heat down but that's fine with me.

Now I hope that August will be mild and warm and it doesn't really get used.

I got an Autoterm/Planar heater 1 boat ago. A new heater, controller etc was cheaper than a replacement wiring loom for the Eberspacher… plug and play, reliable, excellent support for incompetent owners.
When I needed a heater for current boatie it was a no brainier to fit another Planer.

Nothing but good words for them and Mr Cox (Jr, Cox Senior is the yottie guru from the magazines) who is the official importer.

Thanks for the endorsement. Did my research and quickly discount all the cr@p that emanated from China. "So cheap I bought 2 of 'em in case one broke down...." etc and ask you see on Facebook is people liking to see what all the error messages mean 'Cos they're not in the book.

As I said it retro-fitted well and the Mrs is dead pleased the blankets can be put away...
