Diesel

Post by marisca »

WTF is going on? Back at the start of April I was in Belfast where diesel (for road) was advertised at 145.9p/l while it was over 164p'l in Ed'burg. Yesterday in Ed'burg it was 159.9p/l in supermarkets, in Oban it was 149.9p/l ! Ed'burg is closer to Jim Ratcliffe's refinery at Grangemouth than Oban is. I know I'm being ripped off but who is doing it? Ratcliffe or the supermarkets? Probably both but someone is definitely at it.

Diesel at the Cot House Jet station near Dunoon is £131.9.

That's not a typo. £131.9. For diesel. Luckily for me it is a10 minute detour for me en route to the boat.

Yes there are a lot of apparently paradoxical road diesel price differentials around at the moment with independent outlets in the middle of nowhere being cheaper than urban supermarkets. You can always check up on one of the online comparison sites.

It's been like that, lowest cost, for at least a couple of years. I will run down the fuel level and fill up there if I decide to use the ferry rout when going to Craobh. I asked a bloke behind the counter why they were so low cost and his reply was blunt, you are being ripped off elsewhere.

That thing the Tories go on about, that thing that makes things so efficient, the "market". Everyone is being shafted, I have really started to shop around - what does it take for a monopoly commision investigation to be started, fuel pricing and calor gas spring to mind. I was working at holy loch marina earlier in the year , and the Cot House Jet station was eye opening.

As far as I remember, the Cot was always cheap for fuel. And before anyone goes on about the 'quality', it can't cost 20p/ litre for all the fancy additives that BP Shell and ESSO put in to make their 'premium' fuel so expensive.

Dunno about boatie fuels but surprisingly the cheapest diesel for your motor in mid Argyll currently -as of this afternoon- is the Halfway between Conel and Oban at £139.9.
