The RYA and other busy bodies recommend replacement of flexible gas pipes every 5 or 10 years, manufacturers and vendors tend towards the 5 years mark (quelle surprise!). As a good and caring skipper I am actually getting round to doing this, doesn't time fly? . My internet trawl found Hamilton Gas Products Ltd in Noriron who, compared to Socal and others, offer remarkably good value - SS armoured 1m pipe to BS3212 @ £10.80 cf £29 elsewhere and red 8mm HP rubber pipe @ £1.56/m.
Now all I need to do is get the transfer set-up to get Calor into Campingaz cylinders - someone is really taking the piss with the prices!

I bought all the stuff for bringing my gas system up to date from them. Good price an range of stuff and at the time good service. I put the last clause in because things have changed since Boris Got Brexshit Done and last year I had to get some paint from a company in Armagh. It was dispatched promptly but spent th next week on a journey around the UK before arriving in Renfrewshire. At one point it passed through a depot in London!

orange gas hose: £3.80 per m in Craobh, but when you only need 0.5 of a m, no delivery charge and it is right there where you need it, it's not a bad option.

When I replaced the cooker pipe on Seminole the bit I took off said, in French, BBE 1986, or maybe something was lost in translation.

It's a 1982 boat.

I did this in 2014.

The pipe had lost the sheen of youth, but had no significant cracks and didn't leak.

I believe that there is a significant safety margin built into pipe life, just as you would expect considering the consequences of failure.
