Proposals to Develop Annan Derelict Harbour

Post by BlowingOldBoots »

Annan Harbour is on a long journey to redevelop their old harbour, apparently the first on the West Coast of Scotland, with over 1000 years of history. The Annan Harbour is applying for funding from the Levelling Up Fund and would develop the old warehouse, that they own, create a weir to maintain water level, improve the drying harbour for visiting vessels. Tide range is a tad over 3.5m and it will still be a drying harbour, which is a good idea, although may limit folks who can't manage tides or not prepared to take the bottom.

Sounds good, I would certainly visit. I have holidayed down that way and the waterfront is lovely, with meandering rivers, ancient harbours, old towns. A lovely place for sure.

This is one of these areas that could become a sailing attraction, a destination in itself. There are plenty of tidal rivers with old harbours and towns, such as the harbour at Wigtown, that could be promoted to attract visiting yachts. At the moment, defiantly a quiet backwater. Good luck to them.
