YBW a disaster at the moment . . . do IPC care?

The YBW forum is continually grinding to a complete halt, which is particularly irritating when you have spent ages composing a post and it then disappears in a puff of cyberglitch.

Do you think they will fix it, or are they losing interest? It is hard to see what it does for IPC except provide a few trendy column inches for the mags every month. On the downside, I suspect that most people are finding the fora much more useful and informative than the mags and that subscriptions are being cancelled.

We just bought the first YM since we got back - I read it in about an hour, found it very boring and learned nothing I didn't already know. It seems to be aimed very much at the well-heeled sailor these days - people with a six figure sum to spend on the sport.

There's a sticky on SB with the following from Dan:

Hi all,

I've answered this question quite a lot recently so I'll make the topic sticky for a while. Firstly, the slow running of the forums is nothing to do with the advertising - we only have basic animated gifs in the forums, no rich media as you will see elsewhere on the site.

The slow running/timing out has been getting progressively worse and, not to bore you with the details, the forums were basically never intended to process this amount of data.

We are scheduling work which will resolve the speed problem in the next couple of weeks. It will affect the search but we will still have it in some form. It also means the whole of YBW will be down for up to four hours. Obviously we are tying to make this at a time when it will be least disrptive but we'll see when system admin can do it.

So, if you can hang on a little while longer we should have some superfast forums! Apologies in advance to those that are sceptical, but it really is happening...

The forum is a victim of its own success - but will IPC throw more money at it and why?
