After rocking and rolling all night whilst at anchor in August, Sheena said she'd never be back.

We would only really use it as an alternative to Gigha for waiting on tides for Mull roundings. It's a nice enough place, but not a particularly good anchorage or mooring in my opinion.

The trouble is Nick, these guys know that Craighouse has a bit of a reputation in the department of massively thick kelp and anchor dragging. I have no intention of paying for a temporary mooring, but will, in future, use the fisherman's anchor if free moorings are not available.

Anyway, more importantly imho, will be the siting of the moorings - my suspicion is that they will be close to the existing moorings thus pushing anchored vessels further out making it more "difficult for visiting yachtsmen to get ashore" if they choose to anchor, which makes the stated aims sound cynical.

It seems that the Jura Development Trust also want to build this;

" Following a ballot held in January 2003 the Jura Development Trust submitted an application to the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) and Highlands and Island Enterprise (HIE) to purchase the existing Antlers building and site on behalf of the community of Jura.

This bid was successful, and a second adjoining piece of land was purchased also with help from the SLF and HIE. The community had various get-togethers to discuss the future redevelopment of the site. A project was agreed upon that would include a Tearoom, Gift shop, Interpretation centre and Bunkhouse"

Well perhaps we should wait and see what evolves. There was a plan to build sheltered accomodation just by the track that runs from the hotel to the Pier but I understand its been shelved so perhaps "Antlers" will not come to fruition.
If you want a peaceful night in Craighouse just lie alongside the Pier - its wonderful but take a plank.
I think it you look on Google Earth and find Craighouse you'll see ma fine shup alongside and looking very peaceful
