Webcraft UK Ltd is taking delivery of a new PC with widescreen monitor later this week.
Resolution is 1650 x 1065
Are any other forumites running widescreen monitors and what resolutions are they using?
I will need to work out an optimum widescreen pic size and calendar placement . . . any input welcome. I don't mind adding one extra resolution for widescreen, but I don't want to add several.

You are such a helpful lot . . .
.
that I had to go to TOP to get any sense out of people.
Frankly the results have surprised me a bit . . . 35% of you are using widescreen monitors, I thought it would be nearer 20% at the most.
Means producing a static desktop wallpaper for every resolution with a calendar positioned handily in a corner is not really feasible any more, so in future I think the calendar will be available in four flavours:
1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
1440x900
1680x1050
That will cover 74% of users according to my poll. Another 10% using 1280x800 widescreen should get an acceptable result from the 1280x1024 option provided the calendar is not placed within 150px of the corner of the screen.
(Question - when the desktop background is too large is the picture centred, i.e. does a 1280x1024 wallpaper lose 112px top and bottom when displayed on a 1200x800 widescreen display? I assume so, but have never tried it in reality).

Been experimenting with the three sizes currently on offer. It's hard to be sure what's happening since the October calendar is somewhat featureless around the edges and the most obvious difference is in the text size.
However the two 4:3 ratios seem to fit perfectly and I seem to lose a few pixels from the RH side of the image on the 1280x1024 which is 5:4 of course. This is presumably because you had to chop a bit off the image for the 1280x1024.
How about putting up a test card style pic with some kind of grid?

I run at 1280 X 800Nick wrote:.

I usually use your 1280 X 1024, it all fits, but will be a bit squished.
You would need a test card with a circle to check the effect.

This Test Card is a bit more intricate than necessary.

It seems 35% are using a widescreen display . . . and I think that number can only increase as the price of high quality big TFT monitors has plummeted in recent months.
