When Trailing a boat

Post by aquaplane »

stop every mile and check your nuts.

Wheel nuts that is.

I stopped a very short time before I lost a wheel at 50 to 60 MPH on Friday night. When I jacked up the trailer to see if anything could be done the two remaining wheel studs were smaller than the holes in the rim and the wheel fell off.

Still it's only cost me £250 so far, it could have been a dustpan and brush job with the car on it's roof/side too.

Was this last week on the Loch Lomond road? I think I may have been behind you.

I was on the M61 going to the lakes (Windermere) via my girl friend's in Preston.

I now have a new drum (£50) and am sorting out new rims/ tyres (£52 each side) and am going to have another try this W/E.

When I have come up there I go to Largs so don't get as far as Loch Lomond. I do fancy having a go around Mull tho. When I feel brave or am bored with the Clyde (as if that's possible) I will come launch at Crinnan or Oban or somewhere yet to be investigated when it's a bit more likely.

Happened to me trailing a corribee on the A77, but luckily the cops stopped me before the offside wheel came off completely. Home-made trailers can be like that, I would not try to fit landrover wheels to lorry drums in future.
