While I was out at the weekend, I heard on the VHF of the loss of a yacht on the south west corner of Kerrera. They went aground around midday after I think losing their engine. By the time the lifeboat got there, they were taking in a lot of water and in spite of a diesel pump, there was no hope of saving the yacht.
I inferred that there was then a quite hairy phase trying to retrieve the yacht's crew and the lifeboat man or two who were also on board the yacht with their big pump. After about twenty minutes of no radio traffic, the lifeboat asked for a helicopter to help retrieve the crew from a liferaft. But shortly after that, the lifeboat announced they had recovered all the people with no injuries but non-the-less asked for an ambulance to take some who were hypothermic.
All very unfortunate, to say the least. But the most notable part for me was the yacht, Blue something (can't remember the name; I'm not trying to protect anyone's sensibilities) which was first on the scene, who asked for the skipper's email address so he could send him the photos! Just a smidge insensitive, I thought. What do you think?

I'm sure that all the best pictures of Silkie are in other people's photo albums. I once considered radioing the Isle of Mull ferry to ask them to put my email address over the tannoy so that all the folk taking pictures of us (screaming beam reach) could send copies!
