Bridge over the North Channel?
I do hope I live long enough to see this bright Boris idea come to fruition. The UK government's track record on things like Crossrail and HS2 is a litany of overspend, mismanagement and ridicule. At least Holyrood got the Queensferry Crossing up without too much overspend, schedule slip or corruption charges though they're not too good at ferry building. Maybe I shouldn't advocate lobbing TEPs into the Beaufort Dyke any more.

Of all the ambitions that I could list, this one would not be far from the bottom, what is the attraction for you,do ye fancy a burd over there?

I think it is a particularly stupid idea. I just want to see the almighty cock-up develop.

Just the start of the anti Indy charm campaign of Boris.
“Tell the sweaties we’ll spend a few bob on them and they’ll get back in the box”.....
The man is a total joke.

I wonder if they'll get the same Architects as for the Garden Bridge

Here's a design they could "borrow"

Re: Bridge over the North Channel?
I can't see it happening. Apart from Beaufort's Dyke munitions - it's just too deep for conventional bridge building. Add scour from tides, typical west coast weather and some large tanker traffic it does not make much sense.
The bigger bridge projects on mainland Europe - Oresund between Copenhagen and Malmo are pretty impressive. Shallow water mind you so the submerged tunnel sections were "easy". Despite 57m clearance the bridge still actually puts off many commercial skippers. They often take the marked clear channel just east of Copenhagen than use the bridge route. (we toyed with going under the bridge but it was a big detour east!)
The next one up is the Fehmarn Belt Link. Longer but not much deeper than 35m anywhere. Not built yet.
There are several deep water / hard rock tunnels in construction in western Norway. Designed to displace ferries at no expense spared, they are slow building and consuming eye-watering quantities of both dosh and materials.
In the UK, money would be better spent on better ferries and port facilities .
Not work Scotland / Clyde is proving very competent at...?

I am amused by the MoK option - the bridge would be the least of their problems. Getting a road connection suitable for artics complete with opening bridge over the canal might cost a few bob. Would make Croabh and Ardfern quicker to get to, though.
