Had two dolphins entertain me for over an hour today. As well as the usual rushing by the bow with mm to spare or screaming in from the beam on the surface and diving under the keel at the last microsecond they did all the best aquarium tricks too albeit I was the only prop they had to work with.
Huge synchronised leaps easily 6ft clear of the water. One of them did an enormous back somersault so close in front of the bow I was worried it might land aboard. At one point I thought they had gone and (realising I might not have been keeping as close a watch for other shipping as I ought) I started a 360 scan. As I turned to look astern the two of them burst clear of the water in opposite directions only a few feet behind me with one appearing to leap clean over the top of the other. I hope they were old enough to hear that kind of language.
They also spent minutes keeping pace alongside in formation with their heads out of the water and it was impossible not to believe they were checking me out.
Never seen anything like it before. Absolutely brilliant.
Sounds amazing - bet you wish that you had a camcorder with you. You'll need to get yourself a mobile phone with camera. I now take more photos and video with my fone than with my S602 (it's too big to be handy)

They joined outside Cuan and stayed until we were north of Seil when they probably got distracted by a fishing boat that appeared to be sorting it's catch to judge by the cloud of gulls.
We must have been about 4 - 6 hours behind you (left Balvicar at 1430), and we didn't see anything. Heard something after we'd moored at Dallens Bay, but prob just a seal.
I asked, as last year, we got the works from a pod of dolphiniums just south of the Kerrera;
are you moored up for the season - we were there last weekend on land and there were no boats there, we are moving up over the next couple of weekends but was wondering when others started to arrive
Paul Z had told us it was okay to arrive before May but being our first season there we were a bit unsure when
Hopefully the weather warms up and we can get ours through the canal and up to Dallens ASAP - this weekend first leg cancelled due to windchill of -7 being forecast!
Bloody searats! This pesky animals are specially designed to subvert skipper's authority so that in the midst of whatevber is going on - ooh, let's drop everything, it's Disneytime!
