America's Cup - Total confusion

Post by BigNick »

I have totally lost the plot on the legal challenges and their relation to what should/will take place on the water.

Alinghi and BMW Oracle have decided to control the whole thing to the exclusion of all the other teams. It seems like they might as well save their boat building budgets completely, and just get the lawyers and judges decide who would have won if a race had taken place.

Anybody able to briefly explain how this has come about?

Or have we all lost interest?

Is it actually cancelled? It's all gone quiet on the Spanish coast, where they were pumping the enthusiasm and building marinas in 2006. Last time I was there all the focus was on the Volvo race.
