Hi all,
Now that I have my own forum (oo err missus), I thought that you might like to know my plans for Weatherweb.TV, and for me to explain a little about what it is all about.
The idea for Weatherweb.net has come about as a result of my PhD thesis and feedback from people who have come on my WeatherSchools. They all said there need to be something else for sailors, aprt from the Shipping Forecast and usual web sites that explained a little more about the weather.
Other people who use weather were saying the same thing. Pilots, farmers and business people travelling abroad all said they wanted something more specific, many said "just like the Weather Channel in the USA".
Well, I was involved in the setup of Ther Weather network (Europe's first English language weather channel) here in the UK back in the mid-1990's, I was the senior meteorologist on the project. We all know this venture failed, but it has been in my blood to laucnh a weather channel using the interent as a broadcast medium ever since.
And the idea for Weatherweb.TV was borne. My forteit is certainly not web site design (as you can see), and so I enlisted the help of Nick at Webcraft. He has come up with a super design which will be launched soon.
But of course, all new business ventures only survive if they make a profit. My aim is to encourage advertisers onto the site. In the month since laucnh 1000 unique visitors have visited the site, a huge figure considering how limited the marketing has been (i.e. none). If you are interested in advertising, or you know of anyone who may be, please do let me know. The rates are low and you are gauranteed exposure to people who actually sail (not those who want to sail, but those really doing it). You can sponsor the website, or have an advert in the broadcasts.
The feedback from the users so far has been superb. If you have suggestions as to how I can improve the service please let me know.
Here's what is planned, much is dependant on attracting advertisers, so if for example you know someone who may sponsor the Channel Regional Forecast let me know.:
1. A frequently updated 5-day forecast, then special forecasts for the weekend. These forecasts are specifically for sailors.
2. Regional forecasts. These will be for four regions of the UK giving details of the winds, visibility, weather and sea state for morning, afternoon and evening, through today and tomorrow.
3. Mediterranean forecats. Really improtant during the summer months these forecasts will be specific to those wishing to sailing in the Med.
That's enough for now. I hope to have the new website running for Easter, and then watch this space.
Thanks for reading,
Simon

Some sort of glitch with Firefox?
Simon, thought you may wish to know that while I can receive your sailing forecast using Internet Explorer, I have been unable to access it using the Firefox browser.
I've downloaded the Firefox plug-in to both laptop and PC, but it's made no difference. While your opening intro is fine, neither machine can access the sailing page. I use Grisoft AVG anti-virus on both machines, but am receiving no problem messages.
Anyway I suppose I can still use IE once a week to access your forecast (bit like looking in on YBW occasionally). Carry on with the good work!
