"Is this you?" Trying to unite owners with picture

Post by shmoo »

Here is a recent selection of pictures uploaded to www.yourboatpix.co.uk

Perhaps your boat is here. Full res. pictures can be download for free and no registration is required. Click on title below picture for more info.

You may even have some pictures to share. The idea is that if we all share pictures we take of other boats out sailing, we will get pictures of our own boats out sailing.

A rare sight indeed.

It's wonderful seeing a Claymore under full sail. Sadly, a rare sight these days, with so many being driven about like marinised caravans.

Donald
Don't entirely agree. Here's another Claymore being sailed extremely well just off Ardnamurchan this year.

So, if I posted occasional "is this you?" posts here I wouldn't cause a flame war then?

Flame wars . . .

Post by Nick »

Well . . .

Frankly I would rather not see any more posts with quite as many pictures as the one which started this thread, as even over a broadband connection it takes a while to open and so people can't scroll down to the replies straight away.

:flamesout If you want to occasionally post half a dozen or so pics on a thread then I certainly don't mind as the pics are on your server, not ours. In fact, I would even be prepared to start a separate section of the forums if you wanted to make this a regular feature.

I actually think your site is a great idea - I wanted to do a similar thing myself, but never really got round to it.

I have also give Boatpix a link in the directory part of this site on the Web Resources page at http://www.bluempment.com/webresources.html . if there is somewhere on your site that you can add a reciprocal link then that would be much appreciated.

If you get any exceptional high-res pix that you think would be suitable for our monthly calendar feature then that would be good too. The acknowledgement would include a link to your site.

Picture size

:chalk: PLEASE! refrain from posting pix bigger than 700px wide as it means anyone not on a super-wide screen resolution has
to scroll sideways.

Shard, I have resized the pic that you posted - the copy you are seeing is now on our server. Aja - 800x600 is still a little wide.
700px wide is ideal.

:sorry for nagging . . .

Thanks for quick reply!

I understand about the big post and will keep future ones to a couple of screen-fulls at most and only occasionally.

Yes, the old round-toits are in short supply, especially if you want to sail too! I have a 30min train commute and a laptop so that is where yourboatpix got built.

Thanks for offer of link: would appreciate that. Will put together a links page for yourboatpix too - don't currently have one.

Actually there is a mechanism for making forum-friendly pictures (right dimensions and modest res) on yourboatpix, where the picture of Sahona above came from so there is no need to post the full res one.

Search for the picture in the Search page, entering "Sahona", say. In the picture details box there is a link with words like "medium res picture" and another to something like "forum posting details" with the string to copy and paste in to your post.

Ah! just noticed that it says [image] rather than [img] you will need to edit that for now and I will add a second box.

Hope this helps. It is meant to be helpful

Thanks to Donald-the-spirtle for the complement and thanks to Donald-the-lense for the photo.
One of the Donalds knows just how difficult it is to catch the right moment to make a boat look competent when it's struggling for control!! The anti-yaw thing on the towbar was loose I think.

Now that Nick has had his moan (on low speed broadband here, so it did take a while) I don't think you'll get any flaming in here.
It's a very useful site, and I would love to upload all the pics I've gathered from other places where they've been freely posted, but are you after those that people have personally taken, or would these be acceptable ?.
Also, if Nick doesn't mind my asking, I would happily carry a link to your site too, reciprocated of course, but I'll leave out which site it is (if you don't know) until Nick has voiced his approval or not.
Excellent idea though, just ignore the miserable beggars
