and where are you going?

We'll be on the boat, but setting her up for the start of the season, so doubt we'll go anywhere....

Currently blowing 35 knots on the west coast and forecast to go to 50 overnight. I've decided not to bother.

Yes, in view of the forecast, I'm definitely waiting until after we've launched in mid March.

Kind of guessed I'd find you over here, having said you are taking a break from the other place. I know what you mean, but have decided to just avoid the sh!t fights and stick to boaty stuff.

I started one about Whip it Dip it not being a boaty thread purely as a joke, but am sitting here quietly chuckling at the number of serious responses !

I can avoid the crap on ybw as well as the next person, but just a bit sick of the fact that there is virtually no thread on there of any significance that hasn't turned into a fight in the last few weeks..... is it really the same place that generated 'virtual cherbourg' and 'exploding bogs' ?

I've come to BM, as this is a lot like the old ybw in feel, but sadly without the volume..... be great if it could be picked up a bit.... and i'm sure Nick wouldn't complain!!!!

I too have a policy of avoiding the crap (as you so succinctly put it) but have found the proportion increasing of late, leaving less and less that I feel like posting on.

Contrary to popular belief this part of the site makes virtually no money at the moment, but it would certainly be nice to see it a little busier. After six years it really is quite exciting to see so many new signups and double figure postings every day. Word of mouth (or the cyberequivalent) is the best advertising so tell other people who you think might be interested - and plese remember tht there is a lot more to the site than just the forums.

I plan on moving the forum to another server sometime next month where it can enjoy unlimited bandwidth, but how busy do people want it to get? I sometimes get a bit anoyed at the speed with which threads disappear to page 2 on YBW - so how many members and how many posts a day do people think would be just right?

(Not that I envisage being able to influence either of these - come one, come all and Silkie's cyberscythe can weed out any genuine nasties

)

How busy?

Thats a good question.....

Perhaps a few hundred posts a day... and about 3,000 members....

Enough that its constantly changing, and has a broad appeal, but not so many that, as you say, its hard to keep up with....

I guess with that many members though, the whole financial side of things would get difficult.... as you not be doing it on standalone unmodified software..... and that costs money, if nothing else in terms of time...

I'm aware of the other useful bits of the site too besides the forum.... I only the other day made good use of the guide on splicing 3 strand to anchor chain!!!!!!

Well - I'm on the boat in the morning - wrestling with the headlining in the aft fornicatorium.
4 stainless bolts to saw through which are in an absolutely impossible place - contemplating using an angle grinder but worried that the sparks might do some damage.

I've got a new cube computer which is going to replace the laptop so I'm doing a bit of woodbutchery to get that in place

Dear Heart is away with her sister for the day so I'll have to brew up as well - drat and tarnation.

It's howlin' here too, just seen Shard's 'photo of 'Amistad' lying there in the sunshine with one head rope out. I've got three ashore and she's leaping about like a 2 year old at a Christmas party. Roll on June.
