New server coming up . . .

Post by Nick »

.
Just checking the bandwidth used and it's over 10GB this month so far, so maybe it is time to move at least this part of the site.

The plan is to move it seamlessly to bluemoment.co.uk on another server. I will use the .co.uk for the new Classifieds as well, then eventually I will move the .com over to the new server and replace the forums and classifieds on the .com - all without anyone being much the wiser hopefully.

All anyone should notice is that the forums are on the .co.uk address for a while - this should be the only way of telling that it has happened.

(Well, that's the theory anyway . . . :fingerscrossed: )

I know you're hoping for a seamless move but any idea when ?
At least with a bit of advance notice we'll have some idea what's wrong if things get a little wobbly here , with YBW however , nobody has a clue when it's likely to drop out , which can be frustrating when you're watching the egg timer and not knowing what's likely to happen

It will be seamless . . .

Because the forums are moving domains it will be possible to have both versions up at once. Once I am happy both are working I will synchronise the databases and put an automatic redirect on the old forum home page.

When/if they move again from the .co.uk to the .com the same process will be repeated.

It's all fiendishly cunning :evilgrin . . . and I always knew the .co.uk would come in handy one day.

So - I'm not even going to tell people when - no point in alarming them, but just thought I would mention it because some people will notice the URL change when it happens. In the unlikely event that there is a glitch I will post progress reports on YBW so HLB, KevB et al can gloat :D
