Malcom Miller - Ex STA Schooner

Post by BlowingOldBoots »

Out sailing a month ago I was sailing towards the Sound of Luing, but just off the SE corner of Scarba, Rubha na Uma, when this fine looking Cypriot flagged charter vessel passed close by, heading southwards.

A fine looking sailing ship that was built in Aberdeen. It is sad that the UK, and Scotland, has never captured the rise of the super yacht industry.

I thought that Jim McColl had a plan for Fergusons to get involved in the super yacht building and refurbishment industry, and that a very old and dilapidated 25m Feadship was bought as part of that plan.

Beyond building and maintaining / refurbishing super yachts (where it appears the skills and expertise is not available in Scotland) there is also a lack of berthing and other support facilities. James Watt Dock Marina is deep enough and large enough, and that has encouraged more superyachts to visit Scotland in recent years, but beyond that, not much. A few dock in Dunstaffnage, but most marina facilities are too small.
