OYT are looking for new members at the Clyde Shore Group, recent post on the the FaceBook group "Ocean Youth Trust Scotland Volunteers". If you think you could help and have skills, especially in the areas in the second quote, consider dropping them an email.
I wondered if I could request a few minutes of your time to help answer some questions Clyde Shore Group have:
Firstly, for those who don't already know, Clyde Shore Group supports OYT Scotland by raising funds for both young people to come sailing with us and operational costs, promote the trust to young people & the community, run shore-based training and social events. We meet monthly, mostly online but hoping to have some in person social meetings in the near future. Our members are normally based around the Glasgow/Greenock/Clyde area. There is also an Aberdeen & North East Shore Group too. We are on the hunt more members to join us. If you would like to join us, please contact
We would like to run a shore based refreshers training in the Glasgow area for those that are feeling a bit rusty at the start of the season and would like some help with topics they are wanting to brush up on. We could deliver 3-4 topics. This would be in-person and we could tag on a social meet up afterwards for those attending the training and also joined by those who just want to socialise.
Is this something people would be interested in and if so, what shore-based topics would people want (see comments for already suggested topics)?
Would you be happy to make a donation and if so, roughly how much would you be willing to donate?
Any other fundraising or general ideas are always welcome, pop them through by email to the above email address.
Topics they are looking for help with: -
Passage Planning
Practical Chart Work
Tides
Stability
Strategies for dealing with various behaviour
ColRegs
First Aid Scenarios
Points of Sail and Sail Trim
Radar
VHF
What's that? Dunno! Should we be worried about that? Dunno! How? Ah dunno!
